
The MLK Center shares a long history with the Indy Steelers, who now operate out of the Center — bringing structure, mentorship, and programming to community youth through their athletic programs.
But their mission goes well beyond the field. The Indy Steelers Youth Football League recently partnered with Stop the Violence Indy on Independent Thinker, a five-week course for boys ages 5–13 focused on vocabulary, reflection, and self-discipline. It's a reminder that the lessons learned in sports — discipline, teamwork, perseverance — carry into every part of a young person's life.
"We look to develop the boys on and off the field or court," said CEO and president Tiffany Hamilton.
That philosophy is exactly why the partnership between the MLK Center and the Indy Steelers works so well. Together, we're surrounding young people with caring adults, high expectations, and the kind of support that helps them grow into confident, thoughtful members of our community.
